My router is directly connected and I can't get on the Internet |

If you are connected to the router with an ethernet cable and you can't get on the Internet, there may be a problem with the IP address for your computer. To check the IP address: 1. Click Start, Run, type cmd and hit enter. 2. At the command prompt, type ipconfig and hit enter. 3. If the IP address does not start with 192.168. - there is a problem with the IP address. Check your computer's TCP/IP setting to see if it is set to automatically obtain an IP address: 1. Go to Network Connections in XP or Manage Network Connections in Vista 2. Right-click Local Area Network and click Properties 3. Right-click TCP/IP and click Properties 4. If it is set to - Obtain an IP address automatically - follow the instructions below. The workaround is to set a static IP address and bypass the DHCP server. 1. Click the radio button - Use the following IP address: 2. Login to the router from your browser 192.168.0.1 3. Click Status at top of the page 4. Using the information from your router's Status page, fill in the information for the static IP address - follow the diagrams below: 5. The IP Address #5 will be #1 from your router Status with the last number changed from 1 to any number between 20 and 50. Click Ok and then depending on your dialog box Click Ok or Close and restart your computer. When your computer restarts, you should be able to get on the Internet.
